Filter: cert_scheme = BIS-CRS, confidence = primary, cert_valid_to between 2026-10-14 and 2027-04-14. "Renewal filing due" is the validity date minus three months, from Scheme-II para 9(1) of the 2026 amendment. It is our calculation, not a BIS date. Where brands differ
- Prama carries the most models. R-71014834 lists 193 model strings, and it is the only R-number on the list with the brand PRAMA. 57 of its 77 ER models also hold STQC ER reports in our dataset, printed valid to 7 Oct 2027 or later. A later STQC date does not extend the BIS registration.
- Qubo and Honeywell have a second R-number. Qubo's R-66002690 runs to 11 Jan 2028 (22 ER models). Honeywell's VVDN-made R-91008982 runs to 23 Nov 2027 (8 ER models). None of the expiring model strings appears under those R-numbers, or under any other R-number in our dataset.
- Four registrations hold analogue models only. Lookman, Logitech, Novus and Shrivari have a blank Brand column and an empty ER column. Analogue cameras need IS 13252 (Part 1) test reports but no ER test (BIS circular, 1 Apr 2025).
- The earliest dates hit small scopes. March Networks (2 models) and Qubo (5 models) lapse in November 2026 unless renewed. i-PRO's 16 models follow on 2 Jan 2027.

What happens when a BIS CRS registration lapses
Primary texts only:
- Validity and renewal. Since 25 Feb 2026 a Scheme-II licence is "granted initially for up to five years" and "may be renewed for a further period of up to five years". Renewal "shall be made before three months of its expiration" in Form VI (Gazette, 25 Feb 2026, Scheme-II paras 8–9). The 2022 BIS FAQ still says two years; the 2026 text replaces it.
- No automatic retest. "Repeat testing is not specifically envisaged" at renewal; BIS picks samples during surveillance (CRS FAQ, Q13).
- Missed date: up to 90 days' deferment. If no renewal application arrives within validity, BIS may defer the decision for up to 90 days; a late application carries a ₹5,000 late fee under regulation 8(5) of the 2018 Regulations, as quoted in BIS's letter template (RG:03, paras 2–3 and Annexure-I). The 2026 amendment substituted regulation 8(2) and inserted 8(10)–(12); it did not amend 8(5).
- No renewal filed: stock in hand stops at the validity date. Where no renewal application reached BIS within validity, BIS's deferment letter tells the maker it is "not authorized to mark and dispatch (including stock in hand)" after the validity date, and asks for stock held with warehouse, dealer, distributor and in transit (RG:03, Annexure-I para 3).
- Then it expires. Without a renewal application and fees within 90 days, the licence "shall stand expired"; under suspension the limit is 180 days (RG:03 para 5). On expiry the licensee must "discontinue forthwith" its self-declaration and withdraw promotional matter (Gazette 2026, Scheme-II grant-letter template, para 8).
- Annual fees matter too. Under the 2026 amendment, if the annual fee with production statement is late, the licence is suspended for 90 days, then cancelled if still unpaid; paying within those 90 days with a ₹5,000 late fee revokes the suspension (regulation 8(11), as inserted).
Separately, no CCTV camera that fails the security ER may be sold from 1 Apr 2026 (MeitY OM, 16 Jan 2026); analogue cameras are outside the ER (BIS circular, 1 Apr 2025).
The documents above contain no rule that requires removing installed cameras when the maker's R-number lapses, and none on reselling units dispatched to dealers before the validity date (checked 14 Oct 2026). For installed systems, see do I have to replace my CCTV in 2026.
What a buyer should check
- Copy the exact model string from the quote, suffix included.
- Run it through the CCTV certificate checker to get the R-number and validity.
- If the date falls before your delivery or final phase, ask the vendor for the renewal application or the renewed R-number. BIS's own ER list shows validity but no renewal flag.
- Check the status reads Registered, not Deferred, Expired or Cancelled. Steps: how to check a BIS R-number.
- For a government-linked order, check the STQC report separately; the split is in STQC ER vs BIS CRS vs PPO.
What breaks in a factory
- Breakdown spares. A camera killed by a surge in March 2027 may be replaced like-for-like from a dealer's shelf. Check the R-number status on the day of purchase.
- Phased rollouts. A plant-wide install that spans February 2027 can cross the Prama and Honeywell dates. Freeze the model list against dates at each phase.
- List lag. BlueI Store's R-81015806 (blank brand column) shows validity 1 Feb 2026 and the status Deferred on 14 Oct 2026, 255 days later. That is longer than RG:03's 90 or 180 days, so read the status as BIS's label, not as a legal finding.
When to call the installer / what to ask the vendor
Ask in writing, per model: the R-number, its validity, whether renewal was filed and when, and the BIS list row. Brands absent from both lists are covered in CCTV brands missing from India's certification lists.
A valid R-number says nothing about whether cameras see the machines that cost money when idle. Mama reads a factory's existing cameras over RTSP/ONVIF and tells the owner each morning where machines stood idle. Leave an email or phone in the form below.
FAQ
What is the validity of a BIS CRS registration? Under the Scheme-II text substituted on 25 Feb 2026, a licence is granted for up to five years and can be renewed for up to five more. Each R-number's own date is printed in the Validity column of BIS's list.
How do I renew a BIS CRS registration? The manufacturer files Form VI on the BIS portal three months before expiry and pays the fees annually in advance. A late application within 90 days of validity carries a ₹5,000 late fee under RG:03.
Can a product be sold after its BIS registration expires? Where no renewal application was filed within validity, BIS's deferment letter says the maker may not mark or dispatch goods, including stock in hand, with the Standard Mark after the validity date (RG:03, Annexure-I). No BIS document checked on 14 Oct 2026 addresses units already sold to dealers before that date. Buyers should ask for the renewed R-number before ordering.
