CP Plus RTSP URL Format and ONVIF Setup (IP Camera and NVR)
CP Plus documents two RTSP paths on port 554: rtsp://user:pass@ip:554/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=0 (Q-series and TS41PL3 manuals) and rtsp://user:pass@ip:554/video/live?channel=1&subtype=0 (LQ-series manual). subtype=0 is main stream, 1 is sub stream. Default camera IP is 192.168.1.250; the ONVIF user is a separate account, default admin.

- Not verified: the RTSP URL for pulling a channel from a CP Plus NVR (the 29 Jul 2026 NVR manual does not print one); whether LQ-series cameras also answer on
/cam/realmonitor; the default ONVIF port; firmware build numbers (the manuals give document versions, not firmware builds).

Two documentation faults. First, the Q manual's examples are broken: it prints channel=21&= 1 and channel=11&=0 where it means channel=2&subtype=1 and channel=1&subtype=0 — copy the format line, not the example. Second, CP Plus does not say whether the /video/live and /cam/realmonitor paths are interchangeable; treat the path as model-specific and read it from the manual of the exact model.
Users report other paths on older or budget CP Plus models (/live/channel1, /live/av0, /VideoInput/1/mpeg4/1) on the crowdsourced ispyconnect list; CP Plus does not document these in any manual we found.
Menu paths (per manual version)
Q-series camera (manual v2.01): RTSP port at (settings icon) > Network Settings > Port; ONVIF on/off and RTSP Login Mode at (settings icon) > Network Settings > Basic Services; ONVIF accounts at (settings icon) > System > Account > ONVIF User; codec at (settings icon) > Camera > Encode > Encode.
LQ-series camera (web manual v1.0.3): codec and sub-streams at Setting > Camera > Video > Video; ONVIF service at Setting > System > Safety > System Service. The manual does not print a click-path for the rest, only sections: RTSP port in §5.2.2 Port (under Network), ONVIF accounts in §5.5.2.b ONVIF User (under Account), digest algorithm for ONVIF in §5.5.3.e Digest Algorithm for Authentication (under Safety).
NVR (29 Jul 2026 manual): ONVIF service at Manage > Security > System Service > Basic Services; ONVIF accounts at Manage > Account > ONVIF User; digest choice at Manage > Security > Security Authentication > Digest Algorithm for Authentication.
Discovery: CP Plus ships IP Finder (V4.0 on its software page: batch modify IP, batch initialise, reset locked passwords). The Q manual also says the camera can be initialised through "ConfigTool" or "DSS Pro"; CP Plus's software page does not list either tool.
Settings that matter for third-party analytics
- Use the sub stream for analytics, main for evidence. The TA41L3C-D-LQ datasheet lists sub stream 1 up to 720p and sub stream 2 up to D1, 1–25 fps (PAL). Enable sub-streams in the encode page; the Q manual says sub stream is on by default.
- Prefer "General" encoding on analytics streams. The TS41PL3 manual says Smart Codec suits static scenes and AI codec forces CBR; Q and LQ manuals offer Instastream / AI Instastream, which cut background bitrate — and the background is often where the machine is.
- I-frame interval. Manuals differ: LQ's example is 30 at 30 fps (one per second); TS41PL3 recommends twice the frame rate. Shorter means faster reconnects, more bitrate.
Where brands differ: CP Plus vs Dahua
| Item | CP Plus (manuals above) | Dahua (Web 3.0 manual / Dahua Wiki) |
|---|---|---|
| RTSP path | /cam/realmonitor?channel=&subtype= (Q, TS41PL3); /video/live?... (LQ) |
/cam/realmonitor?channel=&subtype= |
| Default camera IP | 192.168.1.250 | 192.168.1.108 |
| Default TCP port | 25001 | 37777 |
| Reserved ports note | "0~1024, 37780~37880, 1900, 3800, 5000, 5050, 9999, 37776, 39999, 42323" (LQ manual) | Identical list |
| Subtype values | 0 main, 1 sub | 0 main, 1 extra 1, 2 extra 2 |
The LQ manual's reserved-port list and its BlackBerry/H.264B note are word-for-word the Dahua Web 3.0 text, and the /cam/realmonitor URL is identical. This is a document-level similarity only: CP Plus documentation does not state any relationship with Dahua, and this page does not infer one. The top brands guide covers the ownership side. CP Plus does not document subtype=2 for a third stream, even on triple-stream models; it is not confirmed.
What breaks in a factory
- Two passwords, one forgotten. The TS41PL3 camera manual warns that on older firmware the ONVIF password does not change when you change the admin password. If an NVR or VMS starts returning 401 Unauthorized after a password change, check this first.
- Digest vs basic. Q-series "RTSP Login Mode" defaults to digest (selected models). If an RTSP client fails to log in, check that it supports digest before weakening device settings. (The NVR's "Security/Compatible Mode" applies to CP Plus's private protocol, not RTSP.)
- Stream slots run out. The TA41L3C-D-LQ allows 6 users. NVR, guard-room client, phone app and analytics box each count.
- 50 Hz lighting stripes. Set Anti-flicker to 50Hz (LQ manual) under tube lights and LED high-bays on Indian mains; "Outdoor" is for daylight scenes.
- Heat. The LQ datasheet rates the camera –40 °C to +60 °C, ≤95% RH non-condensing. Near furnaces or under a tin roof in May, measure at the mount.
- PoE and cable. The LQ camera is 802.3af, max 4.7 W on PoE; size switches with the PoE budget guide. The NVR manual lists "PoE power issue", "loose RJ45" and "poor network cable" for cameras that drop offline.
- VLAN and default IPs. Every new CP Plus camera ships at 192.168.1.250, so connect them one at a time or re-address in batch with IP Finder before they join the camera VLAN.
- Remote pull over Jio/Airtel. If the line has no public IPv4 address (e.g. a 4G/5G router behind carrier-grade NAT; ask the ISP), port-forwarding 554 will not work. Pull RTSP on the LAN; it also avoids exposing the camera.
- NVR channel numbering. CP Plus does not publish the NVR-side RTSP URL in the manual checked; one user reports the same
/cam/realmonitor?channel=Npattern working on a CP Plus DVR, withN= recorder channel (Home Assistant forum). Confirm on your firmware before scripting 32 channels.
When to call the installer / what to ask the vendor
Ask for: model and firmware of every camera and the NVR; the RTSP path that firmware uses; the ONVIF account and password; sub-stream settings; the IP plan. For new purchases, check the model on the STQC-certified list. Our Indian brands RTSP/ONVIF cheat sheet has the same fields for other brands.
Where Mama fits
Mama reads a plant's existing cameras over RTSP/ONVIF — typically the sub stream — and reports to the owner how long each machine sat idle, so a correctly set CP Plus feed is all it needs. The retrofit guide explains what an existing system must have. Leave an email or phone in the form below.
FAQ
I cannot add my CP Plus DVR to Home Assistant through ONVIF or RTSP. What URL works?
This was asked on the Home Assistant forum in 2022. A user there reports rtsp://<ip>/cam/realmonitor?channel=3&subtype=0 with the channel changed per camera — the same format CP Plus documents for cameras. For ONVIF, use the device's ONVIF User account, which CP Plus manuals keep separate from the web login.
What is the correct RTSP URL for CP Plus cameras?
A ZoneMinder forum thread is titled "Looking for the correct URL for cameras from CP Plus". Per CP Plus manuals: /cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=0 for Q-series and TS41PL3, /video/live?channel=1&subtype=0 for LQ-series, port 554. Check the manual for your exact model.
