CP Plus Camera and NVR Setup: Factory Reset, Static IP, NTP (IST), H.265, ONVIF, Password
CP Plus manuals offer two software resets: Default keeps the IP address and accounts, while Factory Default wipes everything. After a wipe, expect the documented default 192.168.1.250 and a fresh initialisation with a new admin password. Then set Static mode under TCP/IP, an NTP server such as time.nplindia.org, and H.265 on the main stream. ONVIF and the sub stream are on by default.

Step order for a re-commissioned camera
- Reset. Default if IP and password are known; Factory Default for a clean hand-over. LQ: with e-mail reset disabled, recovery is "through hardware restore" only.
- Initialise. Browse to 192.168.1.250 from the same segment: region, language, video standard, time zone, then admin password and recovery e-mail. IP Finder (V4.0 on the software page) or the NVR also work (LQ §2.1).
- Static IP. Mode = Static, then IP, mask, gateway (LQ §5.2.1).
- Time. IST zone, NTP on. CERT-In's FAQ lists
samay1.nic.in,samay2.nic.in(NIC) andtime.nplindia.org(NPL); NPL defines IST as "UTC(NPLI) plus 5:30 hours". Leave DST off. - Encode. Main stream H.265; sub stream on for live view and analytics. TS: with smart or AI codec on, the camera "would stop supporting the third stream, ROI, and smart event detection".
- ONVIF. Leave on if an NVR/VMS adds the camera over ONVIF; set the ONVIF User password explicitly.
Where CP Plus manuals disagree (and vs Dahua)
| Point | Q manual v2.01 | LQ manual v1.0.3 | TS v1.0.1 / NVR |
|---|---|---|---|
| Password complexity | 8–32 characters, "at least two types" of upper, lower, digits, special | 8–32 characters, "all of the following categories" | NVR: at least two types |
| Full reset option | Only Default described (§4.7.3.4) | Default + Factory Default | TS: both buttons; NVR: Default + Function Default |
| NTP default server | None given | None given | NVR offers time.windows.com / time.google.com |
| ONVIF advice | Enabled by default | Enabled by default, but in its A/V transmission-encryption note recommends disabling CGI, ONVIF and Genetec "to ensure data security" (Table 5-41) | NVR: "safety risk"; disable "when they are not needed" |
For the NTP port, the NVR manual (§4.4.1.2, Table 4-27) says: "The system supports TCP protocol only and the default setting is 123." This conflicts with the NTP standard, where the packet is a UDP datagram on port 123 (RFC 5905). CP Plus does not explain it, so treat the TCP wording as unconfirmed and allow UDP 123 to the time server in firewalls and VLAN rules. Versus Dahua, the default camera IP differs (192.168.1.250 vs 192.168.1.108); RTSP formats and those sources are on the CP Plus RTSP page, other brands in the RTSP/ONVIF cheat sheet.
What breaks in a factory
- Every reset camera lands on 192.168.1.250. Bring them up one at a time, or use the NVR's batch IP change, which assigns by "incremental value" and skips conflicts (§4.1.2.1).
- DHCP after a power cut. A new lease breaks the NVR channel or RTSP pull. Use Static mode or a documented reservation.
- Clocks. The NVR manual warns that changing system time while recording can leave video that "cannot be searched" (§4.4.1.2). Camera VLANs often have no internet route; the NVR lists an "NTP Server" service, on by default (§4.5.2.1) — confirm on your firmware that cameras can sync to it.
- CERT-In time sync. Direction (i) of 2022 requires service providers, intermediaries, data centres, body corporates and Government organisations to connect to NIC or NPL NTP servers, or ones traceable to them, "for synchronisation of all their ICT systems clocks"; effective 60 days from issue (FAQ Q44). FAQ Q40: IST is not mandatory, but the time zone must be recorded.
- Two passwords drift apart. TS: on old firmware the ONVIF password "will not be modified automatically" with the system password. The NVR can push its password to cameras ("Same as the Local Password", §3.1). Record which each device uses.
- 50 Hz mains. Choose PAL at initialisation. The LQ manual gives PAL as 1–25 fps (Table 5-8).
- Load. Every client opens its own stream; size switches with the PoE budget guide and disks with the storage calculator.
When to call the installer / what to ask the vendor
Call the installer before a Factory Default on a camera you cannot reach physically, and before an NVR mainboard reset (the cover comes off). Ask for: model and firmware per device, the IP plan, admin and ONVIF account owners, recovery e-mails, the NTP source, and main/sub-stream codec settings.
Where Mama fits
Mama reads a plant's existing cameras over RTSP/ONVIF, usually the sub stream, and reports to the owner how long each machine sat idle. A CP Plus camera with a fixed IP, a synced clock and a working sub stream gives it a clean feed. The retrofit guide covers what else an existing system needs. FAQ
What is the default password of a CP Plus camera?
In the current manuals there is none: the username is admin and you set the password at initialisation, 8–32 characters (Q §3, LQ §2.1). Older units may differ; check the manual for the exact model.
How long do I hold the reset button on a CP Plus camera? The three camera manuals checked do not say, so we do not state a figure. For NVRs, the manual gives 5–10 seconds on a mainboard button, selected models only (§4.13.5.3). For cameras, the documented route is the software Factory Default button (TS, LQ manuals).
Is it now required to set system clocks in IST only? Q40 in CERT-In's FAQ: no. NTP gives UTC; the time zone "shall also be recorded along-with time".
One or more cameras are offline on the NVR. What should I check? This is an entry in the CP Plus NVR manual's own FAQ (§6), which lists camera power failure, a disconnected cable, a wrong password and an IP conflict. After a reset, the last two are the usual suspects: every factory-reset camera returns to 192.168.1.250, and if the camera password changed, the NVR channel still holds the old one. A CP Plus NVR can set a separate "Camera Login Password" at initialisation (NVR §3.1), and ONVIF-added cameras use the camera's ONVIF account.
